Every Situation, A Chance to Grow
The words left their partner's mouth,
They felt struck, as if having just walked into a table.
The words reminded them of past reprimands,
But they knew it was not the same.
What just happened now?
They fused at having felt struck,
But they didn't know why it happened,
They felt defensive without knowing why.
They didn't want a fight, so they asked,
“What makes you say that?”
Their partner explained the thought, asking for understanding.
Past defenses fell off their shoulders and they related,
Their mind left the past and adjusted to the present.
What they had known then had to find sense in the now,
Maybe what used to be is no longer necessary?
They learned to pause and get to know their reactions,
Letting all feelings communicate before acting.
They had to reflect before knowing when change happened,
It was their responsibility to stay present and act accordingly.
Could every situation be a chance to grow?
Some situations have a way of striking us and triggering our subconscious mind. We react without knowing why. To avoid fighting, we ask questions to clarify what happened. Hearing an explanation can help us to relate our reaction to pent up thoughts and free us to understand what happened in the present. When we sense that we’re reacting quickly without understanding, it’s our responsibility to pause and examine the reactions. Our feelings are subtly communicating with us and it’s important to understand them to act accordingly. Sometimes the triggers are innocent situations, but Life is never without opportunities to grow.
