The Experience

I can only share what I've come to own,

There's no way for me to know what it'll be for you.

Similarities will appear to help us relate,

But it doesn't mean that it's the same.

What will be a trigger for you,

May be insignificant to me.

It may direct you right or lift you,

It may lead me left or drag me down.

We each enter not fully knowing and drawing different conclusions,

We each leave separately and may choose to come back to ponder together.

There will be times when we meet to trade cards,

Or simply know that we carry the same cards in different ways.

We learn separately,

And are drawn back to each other to learn together.

I wrote this thinking about individual experiences. I started with the perspective of a parent and how they can’t know their child’s experience, and it evolved into every relationship. Every experience is unique to an individual, no matter the similarities they hold. Even experiencing together creates different experiences and there’s always the opportunity to grow separately while together.
