Chronic Illness
It moves with an aura of mystery,
Opens misunderstandings in a crowd.
It captures it's victim in uncertainty,
Yet offers wonders to be discovered.
It yields not to resistance,
Searches only for acceptance from whom it holds.
It shares cryptic treasures while taking away security,
Yet is befriending when surrendered to.
It becomes a partner for living,
An ambiguous teacher that reaches beyond.
It leads us to dig and see our self,
To find our light amidst perceived darkness.
After studying chronic illness and accepting it as my reality, I wrote this poem to reflect on the role it has played in my life. Acceptance and the choice to surrender are important for self-discovery. Life isn't what was thought yet filled with new wonder to unravel.
