In the Moment

In the moment, you represent the emotions from which I hide.
What you do signifies all that I desire,
Your words are nudges towards my fears.

In the moment, I can run from you to avoid what I can't escape.
What I loathe in you signifies all that are impossible to me,
Your care brings forth my helplessness.

In the moment, you represent everything I wish to be.
What I push away is everything I wish to possess,
Your calmness sets love on center stage.

I wrote this poem thinking about times of heated arguments. In the moment, thoughts and emotions can be stemming from various directions without us knowing why and sometimes, the root cause isn't immediately recognized. A fight isn't always personally against our opponent, sometimes it's personally with ourselves and we don't yet know why.
I'm always grateful to the people willing to engage in a dispute with me because heated moments of confusion are how I'm led to discover myself more deeply.
