Earth’s Meditation

“Do you know what the earth meditates upon in Autumn?” – Pablo Neruda

Under a comforting quilt of leaves,

She lays snug, ready to slumber.

Dreaming of white flakes to quench her hunger,

As she prepares for new blossoms to rise.

She envisions the Phoenix combusting with warmth,

Promising rebirth in the months to come.

Holding onto hope for the rise of the sun,

She hears the music Spring promises to bring.

Ready to roll with the cycle of change,

Searching for warmth within to nurture her soul.

Believing change will make everything whole;

She meditates on love to fulfill her dreams.

At dVerse, Laura asked us to pick one of six Pablo Neruda’s lines to inspire a poem.

    You have set the meditation scene so perfectly with those opening lines – just about as quiet and cosy as it gets. A lovely lyrical and optimistic poem full of warmth and colour. Thank you for joining in with this prompt from Neruda

    I enjoyed the cosy opening lines, just what autumn means to me these days, settling down for the winter. I also like the promise of rebirth, and love the phrase ‘Ready to roll with the cycle of change’.
