I see venom in your eyes,
I see tension in your fists
And I feel your walls erecting.
-But I know that you are hurting-
I feel condemned by your words,
I feel motivation to turn the other way
And I see no hope in your being.
-But I know that you are hurting-
I feel helpless in your presence,
I feel judged by your disappointment
And I long to make it right for you.
-But I know that you are hurting-
There are times when the one we love is hurting and the only thing we can do to help is to stand by as they brave their demons. This poem reflects on what helpers are seeing and feeling when they can’t step in and must accept what is. A battle of emotions can always get ugly, but it is in facing it head-on that understanding and inner strength are found.

Absolutely true what you describe. This is one very tedious reality of life.
I was the troubled one when I wrote this. It was the first time that I recognized how my supporter was hurting and recalled my time in that position. This was my tribute to all supporters. ❣️
That made me realize very clearly that I too have taken turns in both roles …it is so human. That’s how we learn to be so caring of each other. So wonderful of you to write this 💛
