Tread the Water, Trying to be Brave

Photo by Jeremy Bishop on Unsplash
Thoughts and emotions collide in waves,
As I tread the water, trying to be brave.
I only know that I need air,
To remain down under would be too great a scare.
When lost in passion, I open my eyes and see
Below the surface and a new reality.
Thoughts and emotions collide in waves,
I continue to tread the water, trying to be brave.

The tides stir the direction of my strokes,
Adventurous curiosity, it invokes.
Carried further from land and deeper into the unknown,
I must be ready to accept what the waters have shown.
New lands to see and new animals to swim beside,
I cannot choose only one place to reside.
The tides stir the direction of my strokes,
Discovery and growth are constantly stoked.

Life is an interesting journey filled with mysterious discoveries and even the journey within can feel like an adventure in the ocean that we choose to brave. The tides that come are out of control and help us choose a direction. It helps us to see new things, meet new people and makes it hard to want to just remain. Through everything we curiously follow, we are growing and discovering Life.

  1. Absolutely beautiful!! I agree with you – the inner journey is quite an adventure, as if swimming unknown oceans, traversing mountains and valleys often, the waves wash over and drench – so thrilled to read your poetic descriptions!
