Because Every Child Matters: Spoken Word Poetry

Provide love and safety because every child matters,
Offer love consistently because every child matters.

Acceptance is deserved,
Respect should never be reserved because every child matters.

Abuse is not a way to teach,
Excellence is what we want them to reach because every child matters.

Family is an important foundation,
It is the root of future creations because every child matters.

Don't rob children of the treasures that holds significance,
They are worthy of strength and endurance because every child matters.

Don't conform them into false identities
They deserve to be who they are to fulfill their entity because every child matters.

Fear will eat at their soul,
Lend them strength as they struggle to become whole because every child matters.

Don't play on them as if they're not aware,
Nobody deserves the extra scare because every child matters.

Embrace them as if they're already grown,
Give them a chance to let their wisdom be shown because every child matters.

Don't contain them in the ideals of success,
Let them explore the skills they possess because every child matters.

In nature, let them run wild and connect,
It is with experience that they build respect because every child matters.

Don't rush them to maturity,
Let them experience adversity because every child matters.

Acknowledge that they are full of intelligence
Step back as they prove their diligence because every child matters.

Be open to the wonder they bring forth
Let them embrace their journey to find self-worth because every child matters.

Embrace the curiosity that arises in you
Tap into your inner child to find what's true because every child matters.

Astrid believes that every child is wise
That we are all children, no matter what age or size because every child matters

In honor of Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, this poem was inspired by the recent studies I've done on the history of residential schooling . As the words progressed, I tapped into the belief that love and care is deserved by all and that everyone is a child in Life, no matter our age or ethnicity. Every living being matters and deserves respect.
