When the One You Love

When the one you love is what you wanted to be,
They fuel your futile fantasy.
Fear alerts and raises its fiery shield,
To protect you from the love they yield.

When the one you love encourages you to be what you no longer should be,
The webs of life entangle you in duality.
Hopeless confusion entraps you in hate,
Daring you to simply accept it as your fate.

When the one you love remains after being pushed away
The fire dies to reveal what unconditional love relays
It takes courage to face the heat
And love stands strong through every beat

When the one you love reflects who you are
They give you strength to face your scars
Courage is found for acceptance
And you're once again ready for perseverance

For so many years I've tried to push the love of my life away without understanding why. He is everything I wanted to be but knew that I could not. His encouragement and presence led me to trust in my fantasy, having not realized that it was a childhood fantasy.

My journey progressed and slowly the onion was getting peeled. The duality of my dreams and reality entangled me, and often turned to hate in my heated moments of fear but, yet, he still remains and proves the power of unconditional love.

Finally, my mystery has been solved and I hope to not be caught in fiery fears again. I feared the love of my life because he's a reflection of what I want to be and what I am but have yet to work on accepting.

The journey continues and I am enlightened knowing that I am loved. I will continue finding ways to clean out the old dreams and love myself as I am.
