Start to Be Great

Inspired by “You don’t have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great.” -Zig Ziglar

A youthful group were passionate about becoming eco-friendly and wanted to inspire their peers to do the same. They each had a chest of ideas and didn’t know where to begin.

“What would you think of walking in parks to pick up litter?” Andrea asked.

Doug looked skeptical. “That doesn’t sound safe right now. What if we chose to do a video of ideas instead?”

Francine nodded. ” Let’s leave the park for another time. Next week, we’ll bring our ideas together.”

Throughout the week, Andrea, Doug and Francine collected their ideas and felt eager to share but then learned that their meeting was cancelled due to a lockdown. They each swallowed their disappointment and stashed their ideas away.

The following week, the lockdown was still in effect and Andrea shared her frustration with her mom. “We just wanted to do something for our planet. It would be a great plan if we could plan together but now, we have to cancel it.”

Her mom nodded with compassion. “I understand that it’s frustrating right now, but there’s still much you can do to accomplish your goal. You don’t have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great. Why don’t you each work on an idea separately and share individual successes after?”
