Winds of Change

Nathan was a young man entering the stages of discovery. Often pondering of what would be, he entered high school with small goals in mind. When faced with challenge, Nathan was uncertain how to handle himself, often desiring to return to his comfort. He watched his classmates and noticed Alexia who was able to persist, no matter what she faced.

Alexia strived in school while battling cancer in her life. She had visible changes occurring yet was adamant to volunteer her time and help her community. For Nathan, who was drawn to comfort, Alexia was an inspiration to step away from his comfort zone.

Nathan befriended Alexia and they became best friends growing together. One day, Nathan asked Alexia how she managed to keep striving and Alexia responded, “When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills. I thought if I built walls by listening to fears, I’d miss out on the gifts the winds of change could bring. By following my challenges, I’ve learned much more of who I am and come to appreciate the gifts life brings, even when they don’t feel ideal. I figure life is smooth filled with opportunity when I follow the changes and is more turbulent when I try to resist.”
