The Art of Can Carrying

Abigail’s the youngest in her family. She watches her parents go to work every day and begins her days trailing after her big brother, Adam.  Adam took care of her when her parents were busy, and Abigail wondered what she could contribute to her family.

One night, her father worked overtime, Adam studied for a test and her mother needed help with dinner. “Abigail! Please run to the basement and get 2 cans of corn and 2 cans of peas.”

“Okay.” Abigail replied. She climbed down the stairs she wondered if she could manage 4 cans going back up the stairs.

When she reached the can room, Abigail stared at her needed cans. Hmm, a can a hand and a can an arm? That would be all four cans!

As Abigail climbed up the stairs, she feared the cans would slip from her grip, but was determined to help her family, so she slowly made her way back to the kitchen. When she got there, she asked her mom for help, “Mom, I have the cans, but you’ll need to take them from me.”

Abigail’s mom glanced at her and smiled big, “Wow! You look strong! Thank you so much! It was quite resourceful of you to use your arms. Great job!”

Abigail was very happy to find a way to give back to her family and decided to enjoy her art of can carrying to help-out.
