Bethany, a cancer survivor and believer, often felt darkened by the circumstances of life. As wife and mother, her illness caused her to miss out on her family’s life, yet they trusted her, even when she thought she was weak.
One night, years after her battle with cancer, her daughter said, “Thank you for being strong. Even when chemo changed you, you were always guiding and supporting us. The battles you fought inspired strength and faith. You’re the best and I hope to become as strong as you.”
Bethany went to bed feeling blissful. Having viewed her experience negatively, she never imagined the impact she had. She thought with a smile, After years of believing in light, I dreamt I was the moon. Who knew I had the strength to guide and be a light through the darkness.

I call that an epiphany. Beautifully conveyed through your story, Astrid.

This has a feel of truth – we often don’t know what impact we have made. The other thing it made me think is that of course the moon is reflecting light, so that light Bethany believes in is the source of her own light.

Exactly, we all lean on beliefs to become what we want to be.

The metaphor of the moon as guide is a good one.
