I tend to Overwatch my child
As she hovers over her tablet.
She’s fully engrossed,
It appears she’s on a Path to Exile.
Could this be her Destiny?
I can’t believe that to be true.
I can see her potential,
Still as sweet as a Candy Crush.
Strategizing in Minecraft,
I witness her wheels turning.
I still don’t understand,
But I realize my worries are Unreal.
For tonight’s prompt at dVerse, Sarah encouraged us to use names of computer games in our poem. Many names called out to me as I started expressing my experience as a parent watching my child immersed in her tablet. I tend to want to see more out of her, but when I realize how games help, I know my worries are my imagination.
Great poem – thanks!

Technology truly is changing society, how our children learn, interact, socialize. Mine came out the other side of it just fine, but that was when video games were the only influence, really. Cell phones and social media hadn’t taken off yet. I think the problem lies when they are not encouraged to engage in other types of exploration and creativity for a balance. I enjoyed your poem and the smooth inclusion of the words. Sorry for the late response….catching up!

“She’s still as sweet as candy crush”
Love that line. Spoken from a parent’s love. My daughter is 44 and I still think that!😊

Minecraft seems to be something that is really creative and not just burning time.

Nice observation at the end that the worries are unreal.

I really identified with this one.. It’s v well structured, with such a nice progression. As to the parenting bit, I guess it’s all about moderation…?

It’s a new adventure and, as parents, we’re learning like our children. We start with a mindset and evolve with realization.

We must also continue growing beside them to support them.
