Like students lined up in a classroom,
They await to be chosen for adventure.
They’re eager in the morning
-To join in daily fun-
And they beckon as I enter
On many levels, they tend to peer
Expectantly hopeful for my approval
They want a day of freedom
-To exist as they are-
Then join the hamper’s upheaval
Grateful, I am, for their protection
Providing me warmth in cold Winter climate
Always ready to hug me
-They are great friends to keep-
In a closet, they keep private

On the prompt to write about something that hangs in the house, I wrote about the clothes hanging in my closet. They hang lifeless in the closet, yet they’re helpful in many ways.
I like these two lines a lot:
“Always ready to hug me
-They are great friends to keep-“

Sometimes, I can’t let them go, even after decades.

I too am taken by the personification of the clothes, ‘Like students lined up in a classroom’ waiting to be ‘chosen for adventure’. Why do we find dressing ourselves each day so difficult when they are so keen join in the daily fun? I like the idea of opening my wardrobe door, just a little, to see them peer expectantly. I agree with Lill about the clothes wanting their freedom and enjoying being tossed into the dirty clothes because they have escaped their exact rows.

You bring your garb gratefully to life Astrid. This was excellent!

Ha. This winter it seems I have one favorite wooly knitted sweater – I must have a closet full of weeping clothes 🙂

Nice line and description of clothing: “They await to be chosen for adventure.”

This is not a sonnet… but I will comment for Lillian’s prompt…
I think the clothes in a wardrobe is very much a mirror of ourselves…. and as such it needs to be set free and used.

Thanks, Bjorn. Definitely not a sonnet. Oops😀

Ooooh I love this way of personifying your clothing hanging in your closet. These lines:
“On many levels, they tend to peer
Expectantly hopeful for my approval”
really do it for me.
I also like the idea of the clothes wanting their freedom….outside that closet….and then, you almost make it appear that they enjoy the “upheaval” of being tossed into the dirty clothes…IE away from the exact rows and regimen of their hanging positions in the closet. Well done! I enjoyed it!
