Parenting is Long-term

No matter the stresses of today, parenting is long-term

Despite the success seen today, parenting is long-term

Respect what your instincts say in the now

Though each situation is distinct, parenting is long-term

Accept the turbulent journey

For it reaps excellent rewards, parenting is long-term

Celebrate whenever they achieve

It gives reason to believe and, parenting is long-term

Be open to their requests

It assists on their conquests and, parenting is long-term

Allow them to decide on their own

Through experience, they’ll be shown and, parenting is long-term

There is no set perfection

You can expect temporary deflections because parenting is long-term

Reactions aren’t always sweet

You may have to admit defeat, but parenting is long-term

Sometimes, you must walk away

And admit that it’s just another day but parenting is long-term

Don’t allow your dreams for them to consume

For it’s their responsibility to bloom and parenting is long-term

There are times when you must let them fly free

Open the cage to accept reality because parenting is long-term

Take time for your own needs

Without you, they will proceed because parenting is long-term

Memories made warms everyone’s heart

Always with our souls, never to depart because parenting is long-term

Always a way to contribute

To strengthen attributes because parenting is long-term

She tends to forget

But Astrid encourages no regrets because parenting is long-term

Nice lines: “Celebrate whenever they achieve

It gives reason to believe and, parenting is long-term” And I like the reminder in the whole poem that parenting is long-term.

I love this repetition. Having grown children, I see so much clearer now what I wish I was then.

This is a cool write Astrid. 🙂 Having raised three wonderful children, and now having the amazing privilege of helping raise our 5-year-old grandson … parenting flies by and soon they are grown and out of the house – and you are melancholy. But such incredibly wonderful, and surprising, and joyful, and some sad even heart breaking tragic memories locked in the treasure chest of your heart… and you wouldn’t trade them for ANYTHING – so enjoy the short time. It is gone before you know it!

I think every parent knows this deep in their hearts, but it can be easy to get lost in the roller coaster ride of parenthood… since I don’t have any children, I see this in friends and family… and it mostly turns out well

This was a great reminder. Thank you. I think we live in a society where people all to often are looking for the touchdown. We want to see the success, then relax. We want to work in a career, then retire to enjoy the fruits of our labor. This is product orientation. Process orientation doesn’t seek an endzone. Sometimes, just making it to the end of the day is enough, but we wake up the next and it’s all part of life. Taking the good with the difficult. Not in a hurry to fix anything so we can get to the touchdown of life. Here today. Always here.
