Beauty

Beauty has the power to enthrall

Despite actions to refrain

Beauty exists in times that appall

Even in darkness, under night’s shawl

When we seek shelter in disdain

Beauty has the power to enthrall

Amidst chaos in an ugly brawl

When emotions must be tied in chains

Beauty exists in times that appall

When Autumn leaves are set to fall

And cold weather brings new strains

Beauty has the power to enthrall

When wanting rest but are set to answer the call

We continue with what life pertains

Beauty exists in times that appall

Efforts in a large picture appears small

Yet, adds depth in the form of a stain

Beauty has the power to enthrall

Beauty exists in times that appall

  1. I like the focus on the power of beauty and how resilient is in no matter what is going on in this world. This line “Even in darkness, under night’s shawl” made me think of the tender, loving moments that can still take place during horrific situations. A very inspiring poem!

  2. Effective use of repetition here. I’m especially drawn to that word “stain.” We usually think of that word in a negative way….but there can be, for example, a beauty in the way that purple wine stain leeches into a white linen napkin….
I enjoyed your take on the prompt!
